Congratulations on starting a new design project! This is such an exciting step, and we’re honored you’re considering Nine Dot Design as your partner. Every project starts with a design consultation—an important first step that helps you clarify your goals, explore possibilities, and establish a strong foundation for a successful project.
WHAT IS A DESIGN CONSULTATION?
A consultation is a one-hour, in-home walk-through with our founder and principal designer, Kaitlin Thomas. During this time, we’ll tour your home, discuss your needs, and start outlining a plan for your project. This session ensures alignment from the outset, laying the groundwork and giving you confidence that your project is in capable, trusted hands every step of
the way.
What you can expect
Our consultations roughly follow this schedule:
Introductions: 5 minutes
This is your chance to connect with Kaitlin and begin building the trust and alignment that are essential to a successful project. A strong designer–client relationship is the foundation of every transformation.
Walk Through: 40 minutes
The heart of your consultation is a guided walk-through of your home. This is your opportunity to share what you love, what you’d like to change, and the goals you hope to achieve by working with a designer. Even if your vision isn’t fully formed, Kaitlin will draw on her expertise to guide the conversation, spark new ideas, and highlight possibilities you may not have considered.
Many clients find this is the moment they begin to truly see how their home can be transformed in inspiring, meaningful ways.
Next steps: 15 minutes
To close, Kaitlin will walk you through how Nine Dot Design approaches projects like yours—covering process, timelines, budget considerations, and areas of expertise. This is also the perfect time to share inspiration images, ask questions, and gain a clear understanding of how we can turn your vision into reality.
What happens next
After your consultation, our team gets to work on creating a tailored proposal that captures everything we discussed. This proposal will outline the defined scope of work, the estimated design hours required, and a budget range that aligns with your goals. You’ll also receive an overview of our design process and a clear outline of next steps, so you know exactly what to
expect as we move forward.
The proposal is designed to give you a thoughtful, realistic picture of how your project could unfold—balancing creativity with logistics—so you can make decisions with confidence.

To make the most of your consultation, it’s helpful to spend a little time reflecting on your vision and goals. Consider these questions as you prepare:
